What a 90+ mobile speed score really takes.

And why some platforms can't get there no matter what you do.

Short answerA 90+ mobile PageSpeed score takes four things: small, modern images with fixed sizes; as little JavaScript as possible, loaded after the content; fonts that don't block rendering; and a page that doesn't jump while it loads. Some website builders inject so much code that 75 to 85 is the ceiling. Knowing your ceiling before you start saves a lot of frustration.

The four things that matter

Images: resized to the size they're shown at, in WebP or AVIF, with width and height set so the page doesn't jump.

Scripts: every chat widget, tracker and animation library costs time. Load them after the content, or drop them.

Fonts: use one or two, load them with display swap, and don't block the first paint.

Layout shift: anything that moves after it appears costs you points and annoys the reader.

Why your platform might cap you

Some builders inject hundreds of kilobytes of their own code on every page. You can do everything right and land at 75. That's not a failure, it's the platform. The honest move is to know the ceiling before you start, and decide whether the trade is worth it.

What's usually the quickest win

Images. On most small-business sites, one afternoon of resizing and converting images moves the score more than anything else. That's how a client site went from 37 to 92 without touching the design.
