Does ChatGPT recommend your business? Here's how to check.

A growing share of customers ask an AI before they ever search.

Short answerTo check, ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity the exact questions your customers ask, like 'best med spa in Irvine for Botox' or 'commercial plumber in Burbank'. If your name isn't in the answer, the fix is clear facts on your site (founder, location, services, hours, prices), listings that match everywhere, and pages written as direct answers to those questions.

How to check in five minutes

Open ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Ask three questions a customer would ask, with your city in them. Write down who gets named. Do it again next month.

Why AI names some businesses and not others

AI models pull from what's written about you across the web: your site, Google, Yelp, directories, articles. If your facts are clear and match everywhere, you're easy to trust and easy to name. If your site is vague and your listings disagree, you're a risk, and the model picks someone else.

What to do

State the facts plainly on every page: who runs the business, where it is, what it does, what it costs, how long things take.

Write your FAQ and service pages as question, then short answer.

Add structured data (schema) and an llms.txt file so AI crawlers read your site correctly.

Fix your listings so your name, address and phone match everywhere.

Get reviews that mention the service and the city.

What to expect

AI models update slower than Google. First mentions usually show in 60 to 120 days. Keep a monthly log so you can see it move.
